to another new and exciting school year. The 2015-16 school year promises to be a great
one. I would like to take this
opportunity to say I am honored and excited to be your Executive Director. Kestrel Heights is one of the finest charter
schools in the area. Since last year, I have learned that the existing tradition
of excellence is due to the wonderful people of our community and the hard work
of our students and staff.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little but about myself and my family. First, and foremost, I am a husband and father. My wife, Ebony, is a first grade teacher in Wake County, so we are a family of educators. We have two children, one girl and one boy. Our daughter, Zari, is a junior in high school at North Carolina State STEM Early College. Our son is a sophomore at Heritage High School. As a father, I have learned that children need to be supported and encouraged so that they can grow and develop into productive citizens. I tell you this because my experiences as a father have helped to shape me as an educator and a leader.
believe in a quality and comprehensive education for all students. Kestrel Heights is known, not only for its
academic excellence and extracurricular programs, but also for the positive and
healthy relationships created between staff and students. I seriously understand
that you have entrusted your children to our care and expect our fine staff to
give their best day in and day out.
My mission, as your Executive Director, is also my passion and is the reason I am an educator. My purpose is to prepare every one of our students for some form of post-secondary education. I believe that for students to not only enter, but to graduate from college, they must be academically and socially integrated into the school. But their goals and aspirations must lead them as they move forward in school. I know we have the staff that is committed to the academic and social well-being of every student at Kestrel Heights.
This past year I was fortunate to have great staff to help me get acclimated to Kestrel Heights. But my primary goal over the next few years is to make Kestrel the flagship charter school in the Triangle Area. I feel we can accomplish this goal by reinvigorating the Paideia program throughout the entire school. During the 2015-16 school year you will see a dramatic increase in the implementation of Paideia. We truly believe in this philosophy of teaching and we as a faculty are working hard to grow and learn in these methods of teaching and learning.
There are some many great processes and procedures that we are working on this year, so please keep an eye on our webpage for a plethora of information as we continue to grow and learn.
With great pride,
Dr. Mark Tracy
